Sam James Ltd have been in operation at the Goldsmiths’ centre, London since it opened its doors in 2011. Its two founders and managing directors Samantha Marsden and James Neville joined forces to create a company that offers outstanding quality and service across all facets of engraving.
Their combined expertise of over 50 years ensures that all manor of engraving can be undertaken by award winning craftsmen to the highest standard, from simple inscriptions to intricate cutting for enamel and fine portraiture.

Hand Engraving
Many ancient crafts are in danger of dying out, but engraving being so decorative and useful will hopefully secure its future.
It is the oldest art of mankind, scratching or cutting designs onto a plain surface has occurred ed since prehistoric times. It’s use can be highly personal and transform the mundane into something greatly prized and cherished for many generations to enjoy.
Specialist hand tools "gravers” consist of a square tempered steel section in a wooden handle, faces are ground and polished onto the tip to enable us to cut a simple v shaped line into the surface of the metal. These lines and other cuts we create are painstakingly layered together in order to create lettering, heraldic crests, fine portraiture, landscapes or whatever our clients desire.

Machine Engraving
We have a well equipped machine engraving department with a range of computerised engraving solutions; from diamond tipped corporate orders and gifts to light CNC milling and cutting.
We specialise in recreating your artwork to the highest standard and detail to be engraved in a cost effective manor, ideal for large volumes on precious and semi precious items including but not limited to watchbacks, trophies and gifts etc.
Design and project management
We also offer a full design service from inscription layouts to monograms and full artistic interpretations.
On a daily basis we work with many silversmiths, designers, jewellers and many more facets of the trade, come to us with an idea and we can take on your whole project and make your dream a reality.
